My classmates and I did a Socratic Seminar today. It was based on the seventy first chapter of the Tao Te Ching, the chapter explained alot about sickness and knowledge.
it Said, "Knowing ignorance is strength.
Ignoring knowledge is sickness.
If one is sick of sickness, then one is not sick.
The sage is not sick because he is sick of sickness.
Therefore he is not sick."
What I think this chapter is basically saying is if you are sick of sickness than you should or would want to have the power to get rid of it. In this chapter "sickness" does not really refer to ill sickness I think it is talking more about a problem or situation. Going to knowledge I think that what he is talking about is ignoring knowledge is not good, there is areason why it is providede to you it is something that will help you through life.
As far as our class did and participation, I think that most of the time it was silence, the other times only about four people were talking, including me. I think it was mostly because people were shy about sharing their thoughts and observations. In the future I hope to have a better understanding and observation of Socratic Seminars.
